Review of The Dame Game

Margaret Hearne; Senior Drama Teacher

This is a wee gem of a show which suceeds in being both informative and entertaining.  The delivery is slick and punchy, and the pace bubbles along swiftly. The actors instantly established a rapport with the young audience and held their attention thorough out.

For most children Pantomime is a once a year Christmas extravaganza to be enjoyed on a purely surface level. This show proves that Panto is and art form in itself and has a fascinating Italian Commedia dellArte, then adapting the form again during the Victorian era to the present day. The contemporary parallel with The Simpsons is inspired and will reamain with the children.  However the highlights are the Jack and the Beanstalk story, and the audience involvment therein.  The classic Panto routines are seen in context and are relished - noisely!

Well done, Live Wire, Julie Torquil and Charles.
