Look out - there's a hazard about

Staff at Aberdeen Royal Hospitals are to take part in a range of activities looking to increase awareness of hazards in the workplace.

During European Health Safety Week between October 7-11, hospital staff will get involved in self defence classes, driver safety awareness, relaxation, patient handling techniques, fire safety, and prevention of back injuries workshops.

Seminars will also address topics of nutrition, illicit drugs in the workplace, stress and risk awareness.

One of the highlights will be a comic presentation by the Live Wire Science Theatre group who will perform a show called Ooh! My Back Hurts. One of the co-ordinators, Anne Murray, said:

"The week is primarily for the benefit of the staff.

"But the trust will also benefit as increased awareness and improved work practices will help reduce costs associated with accidents and ill health at work."
