Two plays aimed at raising awareness about drug and alcohol abuse are to be performed in Inverbervie, writes Anne Kennedy .
The first, which will be open to all villagers, is entitled "Double Vision" and tells the story of two women, the alcohol abuse within their families and the effects that it can have on people's lives.
The play, which has already been performed by the Live Wire Theatre group in a number of towns and cities across the country, is being sponsored by the Aberdeenshire Alcohol, Drug and HIV forum and is aimed at raising awareness about the effects of alcohol abuse, not just for the abuser but for their friends and family.
The second play will be performed by girls who attend Bervie Primary School, and its theme will be drugs and alcohol in relation to young people.
The play will be open to all parents who have children at the school and aims to raise awareness of the problems and challenges which face young people today in relation to drug and alcohol abuse.
Welcoming the decision to hold the plays in the village, Inverbervie Councillor Dave Smith said: "I think this is a really good idea. This is the first time that we have had anything like this in Inverbervie.
"The plays both touch on very important subjects and I hope as many people as possible will come along and have a look."
"Double Vision" will be performed at the Burgh Hall on Tuesday, February 19 at 7.30pm..
The Bervie pupils will perform their play on Tuesday, March 5 at the school, time to be announced.
Entry to both plays is free and refreshments will be served.
