SAFE SURFING AT CULTER PRIMARY SCHOOL

(Aberdeen, 28 TH March 2006) Deeside children will learn how to stay safe on the Internet this week with a performance of 'Sid's Online Safety Show' at Culter Primary School as part of a tour supported by energy major, BP. The show has been developed by Live Wire Productions, Aberdeen's theatre in education company, in association with children's website www.bizzikid.co.uk.

With a third of children surfing the Internet alone and more than a third of these thinking it is safe and acceptable to give out personal details online, Live Wire uses music and drama to raise awareness of the dangers of the Internet and how to stay safe online. The tour coincides with the publication of 'It's A Jungle Out There!', also funded by BP, a 'Kids On Stage' musical resource for primary schools promoting safe Internet surfing.

'It's A Jungle Out There!' is an ideal classroom resource centring around a lively and upbeat Internet Safety musical designed to be used either as a basis for class discussion, or performed by school children, giving them the ability to deliver important safety messages to friends and family. The resource contains scripts, sheet music and an impressive backing track to help children produce a sparkling performance with a professional touch.

Tim Smith, Manager for External Affairs at BP, says, "We are delighted to support 'It's A Jungle Out There!' and we believe that giving schools the opportunity to get children involved in producing their own performance is an ideal way to deliver the Internet Safety message into homes and communities."

Bizzikid creator, Sharon Marshall, says, "'Sid's Online Safety Show' has been a great success in the North East and, by supporting 'It's A Jungle Out There!', BP have helped us to create another cost effective resource for teachers wishing to use music and drama to reinforce the importance of Internet Safety in a fun way that children will remember."

Sharon continues, "With BP's help in bringing the Internet Safety message to young people throughout Scotland, we are hoping that the programme will provide children with the encouragement they need to use the Internet effectively and safely. By involving the children and giving them catchy tunes, we can highlight and reinforce the importance of Internet Safety, so that each time they surf the Internet, they surf safely."
