Udny and Balmedie pupils entertain during internet child safety conference

Delegates at the SETT conference at the AECC were given a break for a musical treat on Friday, May 12 when a group of local school children, including pupils from Udny Green and Balmedie Primary Schools, performed songs from ‘It's A Jungle Out There!', an Internet Safety musical resource for schools, supported by oil major, BP.

Aberdeen Theatre in Education company, Live Wire Productions, worked with 18 young performers aged from 8 to 13, to promote the ‘It's A Jungle Out There!' resource, which uses music and drama to raise awareness of the potential dangers of the Internet and how to stay safe online.

‘It's A Jungle Out There!' is an ideal classroom resource centring around a lively and upbeat Internet Safety musical designed to be used either as a basis for class discussion, or performed by school children, giving them the ability to deliver important safety messages to friends and family.

The resource contains scripts, sheet music and an impressive backing track to help children produce a sparkling performance with a professional touch.

Tim Smith, Manager for External Affairs at BP, said: “We are delighted to support ‘It's A Jungle Out There!' and we believe that giving schools the opportunity to get children involved in producing their own performance is an ideal way to deliver the Internet Safety message into homes and communities.”

Vanessa Chew, Managing Director of Live Wire Productions, said: “We are extremely grateful to BP for providing us with an ideal opportunity to demonstrate how, by getting children involved in music and drama, ‘It's A Jungle Out There!' can be a very effective way of communicating important Internet Safety messages.”
